Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 25, 2015
“The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy.”
The Scriptures this week tell us to “shout with joy.” As the Liturgy’s constant companion, the music we offer should do the same or, at the very least, encourage those with whom we worship to do the same. Bartimaeus, in the Gospel reading, seems to have understood that. His entreaty was done with purpose and urgency, even though the crowd was telling him to be quiet (actually, to be silent). Perhaps we could take a musical cue from Bartimaeus and play our organs, guitars, and keyboards in a manner that promotes a needy soul’s desire to shout to God for mercy.
Saving help of our lives,
hear our prayer and answer us as we seek your healing touch.
Fill our mouths with laughter and our tongues with rejoicing
at the sound of your Name.
