Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time
February 7, 2016
“In the sight of the angels, I will sing your praises, O Lord.”
Have you ever thought about what music is like in heaven? At the end of the Preface, we hear the celebrant proclaim: “With all the Angels, we praise you . . . in joyful celebration . . . ..”
In my dreams, I picture that heavenly gathering this way: Everyone is on time for choir practice. No one is ever sick. The instruments are never out of tune. The pipe organ never ciphers. The acoustics are, well, “heavenly.” And everyone in the choir has the music in order!
Most of all, we are forever in the full presence of the One whom we praise and exalt. I can only hope and pray that I can take a turn as director!
In the meantime, as we sing with the choirs of angels from this side of eternity, may our ears be open to hear God’s call and our spirits strengthened to respond in faith: “Here I am; send me.”
God of glory,
until perpetual light shines upon us,
open our lips to sing your praise and our hearts to answer your call.
