By now I hope you have celebrated a very Merry Christmas and are enjoying some peace and quiet in the New Year. After singing all those Christmas liturgies, it is time for some much needed rest.
Yet our work must go on! We now enter the period of Ordinary Time (note the color green). The psalms we proclaim during the next five Sundays are anything but ordinary. The texts are filled with joy and praise to our Lord. In addition, many of the psalms are about singing. It doesn't get much better than that!
Our ministry of helping our assemblies to pray and sharing the Responsorial Psalms with them comes through loud and clear during this season of Ordinary Time. Remember — the psalms are the only Scripture the people sing. It is our job to be prepared and to help them to pray these most holy words.
God bless you and your families during these cold but hopefully calmer days of Ordinary Time.
Proclaim his marvelous deeds to all the nations! (Psalm 96:3)

Singing is for the one who loves. St. Augustine
The aim and final end of all music should be none other than the glory of God and the refreshment of the soul.
J. S. Bach
Both of these important men, one a leader in the Church and the other a ground-breaker in sacred music and hymnody, agree that music touches hearts and souls. It has been said that God gave us music that we might pray without words. How wonderful that, as vocalists, we not only have the gift of the notes but also inspired texts! Through our ministry, our assembly hears the story in a deeper way, a way which enables them to sing God’s word, putting a melody in their hearts for the coming week.
Our Psalms for Winter Ordinary Time are songs filled with praise and the desire to live God’s Word in our world and in our song! Pray with the Sunday Psalms using the the full texts as you prepare each week. Use them to refresh and renew your own heart as these words inspire those to whom you minister.
